Why these four take nobody else

Three of them cannot absorb strangers and one will not. A fourteen hour push over two thousand four hundred metres, up before light and down after it, has to move at one party's speed or it does not finish. A drove road walked at the pace of the slowest ewe cannot have half its walkers wanting lunch at a different hour. Gathering off wet rock at low water is watched from safe ground and the safe ground is small, so the number is fixed by where a person can stand. The fourth is a house rule: the place behind the wall opens for one party at a time, and that is the condition on which it opens at all.

Four days that set their own hour

One long walking day on the old drove road out of the Apennines, at the speed of the flock, 06:30 to 18:00, from $204. The Taygetos ridge in a single push, 05:00 to 19:00, from $198. Percebes taken off the rocks at low water in Galicia, the most dangerous shellfish gathering in Europe, watched from safe ground, with no fixed start because the tide sets it, from $214. Two of the four are physical days that will take a week's walking fitness. The other two ask mainly for early rising and patience.

Cost, hours and the honest limits

Figures are per person, from $198 to $222, in US dollars. A party of two therefore pays less in total than chartering a day outright and more per head than it would on a shared one. Inside the figure: the person running the day, the full span of hours, and anything paid at the door on their side. Outside: travel to the country, beds, food unless the day says otherwise, and personal equipment on the two walking days. There is no upper limit worth quoting here, but the drove road and the tide day both have one, so name your number first. This office takes no payment and holds no card details, sells no insurance, and gives no advice on visas, passports, vaccination, law or medicine.

The questions this group raises

Does private mean two people, or can we be six?

Either. The mark describes who is excluded, not how many you bring. Two is common and six is workable on three of the four. The percebes day and the drove road both have a ceiling set by the person running them, so give your number in the first message and the office will confirm the day against it rather than after you have booked flights.

Are the two walking days suitable for someone who walks occasionally?

The ridge is not. Fourteen hours with a long descent in the dark asks for hill fitness that holds up after the interesting part is over. The drove road is gentler in gradient and far longer in duration, and the limit there is patience rather than lungs. If you are unsure, say what your recent long walks have been and the office will pass that on before anything is held.

Can you promise the gatherers will be working on the morning we come?

No. That day answers to the tide and the sea state, and both are outside anyone's control. The office reserves a date the tide allows, and the person who reads the water decides on the morning itself. When the sea says no, the day is moved if the calendar permits, and you are told plainly rather than driven out to stand and hope.
